Postgraduate Studentship (PGS)

What it offers:

  • HK$199,920/year (~US$25,600/year)
  • Up to 2 years for full-time MPhil students and 4 years for full-time PhD students

No separate application is required. HKUST will consider the suitability of candidates to receive the PGS while reviewing their application for research postgraduate programs.

   
Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS)
Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS)

It is an internationally recognized award to draw the best PhD students around the globe to Hong Kong. HKUST has recruited the largest number of awardees for 7 years in a row. One out of six HKUST PhD students is from the Scheme, coming from 36 countries and regions.

What it offers:

  • Stipend: HK$301,200 (~US$38,600) per year, for 4 years
  • Conference Travel Allowance: HK$12,600 (~US$1,600) per year, for 4 years

Tuition Waiver Scheme for Local MPhil and PhD Students
Tuition Waiver Scheme for Local MPhil and PhD Students NEW

To build up a pool of local research talents to sustain Hong Kong’s competitiveness and propel the development of our higher education, the HK Government has introduced this new scheme. 

What it offers:

  • Tuition Waiver of HK$42,100 p.a. from 2018/19 admission
  • Applicable to all local students enrolled in full-time MPhil/PhD programs, defined as follows:
    • Having (i) right of abode (A), (ii) right to land (R) or (iii) unconditional stay (U) in Hong Kong as shown in an HKSAR smart ID beneath the date of birth. 
    • Aged below 18 and holds a dependent visa before 1 September of the calendar year in which they are admitted.
    • Having a single entry permit to Hong Kong.
  • Provided for normative period of study
    • MPhil: 2 years
    • PhD (with a research master’s degree): 3 years
    • PhD (without a research master’s degree): 4 years
  • No separate application is required.
